             8      General Description:
             9          This bill exempts the state from observance of daylight saving time.
             10      Highlighted Provisions:
             11          This bill:
             12          .    defines terms;
             13          .    exempts the state from federal law requiring observance of daylight saving time;
             14      and
             15          .    provides that the state will observe Mountain Standard Time throughout each year.
             16      Money Appropriated in this Bill:
             17          None
             18      Other Special Clauses:
             19          This bill takes effect on January 1, 2012.

             24      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             25          Section 1. Section 63G-1-701 is enacted to read:
             26     
Part 7. Utah Time Standardization Act

             27          63G-1-701. Exemption from daylight saving time -- Time zone observance.


             28          (1) As used in this section:
             29          (a) "Daylight saving time" means the period during each year when the observed time
             30      of day is advanced one hour according to the provisions of 15 U.S.C. Sec. 260a.
             31          (b) "Mountain standard time" means coordinated universal time retarded by seven
             32      hours, which is the standard time designated for the time zone in which the state is situated, as
             33      designated by 15 U.S.C. Sec. 261.
             34          (2) (a) The state is exempted from the provisions of 15 U.S.C. Sec. 260a, which
             35      provides:
             36          (i) for the observance of daylight saving time; and
             37          (ii) that a state may exempt itself from the provisions by law.
             38          (b) The entire state, and all of its political subdivisions, shall observe mountain
             39      standard time at all times during each year.
             40          Section 2. Effective date.
             41          This bill takes effect on January 1, 2012.
