    2.    Background Information on Jail Contracting and Jail Reimbursement

There are two different ways in which a convicted felon can be placed in a county jail. Through jail contracting, a convicted felon is sentenced to the Department of Corrections which then contracts with a county jail to house the prisoner. Through jail reimbursement, a judge stays the convicted felon's prison sentence, and sentences the felon to jail as a condition of probation.

Issues to be discussed in this meeting regarding jail contracting and jail reimbursement include historical background, differences, current numbers involved, the pros and cons, and what future actions will be in the best financial interest of the state.
