2. Community Crime Prevention
Crime prevention can be broadly defined as any practice shown to result in less crime than would occur without the practice. Crime prevention may be most effectively viewed as a continuum of these practices. Programs which have shown promising results include nurse home visitation programs for babies born into at-risk families, early identification and intervention for at-risk youth, mentoring, community-oriented policing, and appropriate and effective intermediate sanctions or incarceration, which may require participation in substance abuse treatment, education, vocation, and rehabilitation programs.
