9:05               2. Update on State and Federal Health Reform

The committee will be briefed on the work of the Legislature’s Health Reform Task Force and the Governor’s Medicaid Options Workgroup.

9:20               3. Community Health Workers

During its 2013 General Session, the Legislature considered, but did not pass, S.B. 85, “Community Health Worker Program.” The bill directs the Department of Health’s Bureau of Health Promotion to promote the use of community health workers, establish education programs, create an advisory board, and collect data. The committee will consider issues addressed by the bill.

The committee will consider incentives the state might provide to encourage the purchase of long-term care insurance.

10:45             6. Controlled Substance Database – Interstate Data Sharing

The committee will be briefed on the state’s participation in InterConnect, an interstate data sharing program for prescription monitoring programs facilitated by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy.

11:05             7. Controlled Substance Database – Prescriber Alerts

The committee will consider whether prescribers should receive an alert from the state’s controlled substance database when a patient is obtaining prescriptions for controlled substances from more than one medical practitioner.
