  9:05 a.m.    2.  Introduction of Technology in the Classroom

The task force will receive a briefing on how to successfully introduce one-to-one mobile device technology in the classroom and, specifically, how to ensure that teachers embrace and use the new technology.

Costs to implement a statewide education modernization initiative, including the costs of infrastructure, one-to-one mobile devices, software, and professional development will be discussed.

 11:00 a.m.   4.  Public Education Funding and Fiscal Data

At its August meeting, the task force received a briefing on legislative options for increasing or redirecting revenue for public education. Additional information requested by task force members will be provided.

 11:30 a.m.   5.  Smart School Technology Program Evaluation

The Smart School Technology Program was created by 2012 General Session S.B. 248, Smart School Technology Act, to develop and implement whole-school technology deployment in schools. S.B. 248 requires the State Board of Education to evaluate the program, including school level outcomes, and report on the evaluation to the Legislature in 2013 and 2014.

 12:00 p.m.   6.  Student-Centered Learning

The task force will receive a presentation on a proposal to implement blended learning, an education program in which a student learns: (a) at least in part through online delivery of content and instruction with some element of student control over time, place, path, or pace; and (b) at least in part at a supervised brick-and-mortar location away from home.

 12:30 p.m.   7.  Advanced Placement United States History Course

The College Board has redesigned the Advanced Placement United States history course. A comparison will be made between the new course, instructional requirements for U.S. history and government imposed by Utah statutes, and State Board of Education core standards.
