The committee will hear about public education-related bills that passed during the 2015 General Session, including the impact of the bills on state and local education agencies.

9:50 a.m.      3.  Review of Statutorily Required Reports

The Legislative Management Committee has asked that each interim committee review the reports that statute requires agencies to submit to the committee with the goal of streamlining the reporting process and eliminating any reports that the committee no longer sees as necessary or of sufficient value. The committee will receive information on the number and types of reports that statute requires agencies to submit to the committee and hear agency input on the reporting process.

10:15 a.m.      4.  Long-Term Planning in Education

Interim Rule IR-2-103 requires each interim committee to devote part of its May meeting to long-term planning for the areas over which the committee has jurisdiction. The committee will receive information on demographics related to the state’s education needs and hear updates from several entities that are engaged in long-term planning for education.

The committee will hear findings from a recent report from the Office of the State Auditor on steps to improve college graduation rates, college preparation, and student success.
