The legislation expands the number of people who are restricted from possession of a weapon and expands the number who would qualify for charges. Computer changes required to access the Juvenile Court and other jurisdictions will require an additional technician in the Criminal Identification unit, Department of Public Safety ($53,300). Increased requests for expungements of misdemeanor records will also require additional staff and processing. In the courts there will also be a one-time cost for programming ($2,500) and approximately $5,600 for additional trials and sentencing. If four additional offenders were sentenced as a felony each year the cost to corrections for prison (1 per year) and probation (3) the cost to Corrections would be $29,200 for the first year and increase thereafter.
