HB0370s2 - Hazardous Waste Amendment

State Impact:
Regulatory fees provided in the bill are estimated to collect $950,000 in FY 2002. Regulatory expenditures are estimated to be $950,000 and are part of the appropriated budget for FY 2002. The bill also requires an annual fee of $200,000 to provide for perpetual care. These funds will be deposited into a newly created restricted Radioactive Waste Perpetual Care and Maintenance Fund beginning July 1, 2002. The taxes authorized in the bill are estimated to generate $744,000 for FY 02. Of which $354,000 is from current waste streams and $390,000 is estimated from Class A Containerized A wastes. FY 03 revenue estimates show $2,202,000. Curreent waste streams are estimated to produce $1,062,000 and Class A Containerized Wastes are estimated to realize $1,140,000 to the General Fund.

Individual and Business Impact:
Fees will be paid by the owners or operators of radioactive disposal facilities. Taxes will be imposed on generators of the radioactive waste.
