SB0034 - Governance of the Utah Education and Workforce Alliance

State Government (UCA 36-12-13(2)(b)):
Enactment of this bill could cost the Utah Education Network $1.2 million ongoing from the Education Fund to support administrative and oversight activities associated with the Utah Education and Workforce Alliance (UEWA) as outlined in the bill. Other costs could include $1.2 million ongoing from the Education Fund to support the Utah Data Alliance as outlined in the bill. Included in this amount is $355,000 for the Utah State Office of Education, $245,000 for the Utah College of Applied Technology, $245,000 for the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE), and $310,000 for the Utah Education Policy Center to pay for salaries, benefits, and current expenses for employees who will support the UEWA. This bill could also cost the Department of Workforce Services (DWS) $7,900 ongoing from the Education Fund for contracted technology services, and USHE $150,000 ongoing and $300,000 one-time from the Education Fund for a common college entrance portal as outlined in the bill. Section 9 of the bill does not significantly impact the cost of the Utah Futures program; however, the DWS estimates that $1.7 million in resources currently supporting the program will expire at the end of FY 2014.
