Fiscal Note - State of Utah - 2014 General Session

SB0074 - Career and Technical Education Funding for Charter Schools

State Government (UCA 36-12-13(2)(b)):
Enactment of this bill may increase the total number of weighted pupil units (WPUs) generated in the Career and Technical Education Add-on Program in the Minimum School Program by including WPUs generated by eligible charter schools as outlined in the bill. Currently, WPUs in the CTE Add-on program are valued at $2,659. While the total number of additional WPUs is unknown at this time, for every 25 additional WPUs the estimated cost is approximately $66,500.

Local Governments (UCA 36-12-13(2)(c)):
Including eligible charter schools in the allocation formulas for the CTE Add-on program may alter the distribution of program funding among all participating local education agencies (LEAs). Preliminary estimates indicate that the funding shift between LEAs may range between $80,000 and $350,000. Factors that may alter the distribution of program funding include the number of eligible charter schools, the total number of participating students, and the types of programs offered in the qualifying schools.

Direct Expenditures by Utah Residents and Businesses (UCA 36-12-13(2)(d)):
Enactment of this bill likely will not result in direct, measurable expenditures by Utah residents or businesses.

Performance Note Required? (Joint Rule 4-2-404): No
