Fiscal Note - State of Utah - 2014 General Session

SB0232 - School Safety Tip Line

State Government (UCA 36-12-13(2)(b)):
Enactment of this bill creates a School Safety Tip Line and tasks a governing board to approve an operator for the tip line by September 1, 2015. Costs associated with operating the tip line are unknown at this time and the governing board is tasked with providing a cost estimate to the Legsilature for future funding in FY 2016. By way of comparison, the 2-1-1 Information and Referral program provides health, human, or community service related information to the public. Assuming a similar cost structure as the 2-1-1 system, the School Safety Tip Line may cost up to $1.0 million annually. This cost may be mitigated by private donations and grants raised by the operator and identified during the operator selection process outlined in the bill.

Local Governments (UCA 36-12-13(2)(c)):
Enactment of this bill likely will not result in direct, measurable costs for local governments.

Direct Expenditures by Utah Residents and Businesses (UCA 36-12-13(2)(d)):
Enactment of this bill likely will not result in direct, measurable expenditures by Utah residents or businesses.

Performance Note Required? (Joint Rule 4-2-404): No
