SB0253S01 - Distracted Driver Amendments

State Government (UCA 36-12-13(2)(b)):
Enacting this bill will likely reduce the amount the state will collect per applicable citation from $200 to $100. Applicable surcharge revenue will also decrease. There were 570 convictions in the most recent fiscal year (18 at the state level and 552 at the local Justice Court level). Assuming the same number of convictions, state revenue could decrease by $20,800 annually beginning FY 2015 from reduced fine and surcharge collections.

Local Governments (UCA 36-12-13(2)(c)):
The amount local Justice Courts will collect per citation will be reduced from $200 to $100. Applicable surcharge revenue will also decrease. Reduced revenues to local governments could amount to $56,100 annually beginning FY 2015.

Direct Expenditures by Utah Residents and Businesses (UCA 36-12-13(2)(d)):
The amount individuals will pay per citation could be reduced from $200 to $100 Applicable surcharges will also decrease. Convicted individuals could pay a total of $76,900 less annually ($20,800 less in state courts and $56,100 less in Justice Courts) beginning FY 2015.
