Function

In three of the past five fiscal years the Legislature has appropriated $50,000 per year to the Lieutenant Governor's Office to support civic and character education. The funds go to a distinct line item and cannot be transferred to other purposes within the Governor's Office. Funding is granted to the Utah Coalition for Civic and Character and Service Learning to promote civic and character education through public relations campaigns, annual dialogues, teacher training, and student assessment.

Intent Language

Under Section 63J-1-401 and 63J-1-402 of the Utah Code, the Legislature intends that any remaining funds shall not lapse at the close of fiscal year 2009.
