Breaking Through: A Humanitarian Approach to Besieged Areas in Syria

Join The Center for Contemporary Arab Studies at Georgetown University for a discussion about the humanitarian crisis in Syria.  The UN currently estimates that 393,700 people live in besieged areas in Syria, but recent research has suggested that in fact the number is over 1 million. With analysts predicting that the city of Aleppo is soon to be besieged by the regime as a result of its current offensive in Northern Syria; this number could increase even higher. The panel will explore these issues by providing their insights based on recent research conducted in Syria, and their experiences of delivering aid to besieged communities.

It's the first-ever Palestinian film to be nominated for best Documentary Feature for the Oscar.  The critically-acclaimed "5 Broken Cameras" is a deeply personal, first-hand account of life and non-violent resistance in Bil'in, a West Bank village surrounded by Israeli settlements.

Piano Keys For Syrian Kids Fundraiser

Join The Center for Arab American Philanthropy, high school students Omar and Ziad Fehmi, along with several of their peers, for a very special piano concert to raise funds for Syrian children through UNICEF.  This international organization is  making critical efforts to minimize the impact of the crisis on children - including the life-saving areas of health, nutrition, immunization, water and sanitation, as well as in the future of children through education and child protection. We hope to see you there to support this noble cause, led by local youth.

Understanding Syria: A War Doctor's Memoir

Dr. Tarif Bakdash, a Syrian-American physician who works in Syrian refugee camps, will read from his new book, "Inside Syria - A Physician's Memoir," at an event in Missouri State University- West Plains University. The Harvard University and Cleveland Clinic trained neurologist put into context the political and humanitarian crisis facing Syria, the Middle East, and now, the world. The live reading- which will be the world premiere release of the memoir - will be followed by a Q and A session with Dr. Bakdash and a book signing.

The Nakba Museum Project of Memory and Hope in New Jersey

Nakba Museum Project of Memory and Hope invites to an exhibit at Princeton University. The project aims to finally tell the uncensored Palestinian refugee story to a mass audience through art, photography, video, and performance. The goal is to establish the first Nakba museum in the United States where the complete Palestinian experience can be acknowledged, understood, and empowered.

Join Houston Improv in welcoming the comedian Nemr, February 28, 2016. He is a Lebanese-American Stand Up Comedian who is credited with establishing and pioneering the stand up comedy scene throughout the Middle East where he performs in English. He grew up in San Diego and then moved back with his family to Lebanon where he went on to break down barriers and unite people in a region where bombing on stage can have a completely different meaning.
