This bill recognizes the humanity of unborn babies & boldly states that all human life should be protected and sets up Utah abortion law in the event that Roe v. Wade falls.
Some have asked if women will be prosecuted for abortions and the answer is NO. The bill only provides penalties for a physician who performs an unlawful abortion. The penalty for the abortionist is a second degree felony. Appropriate corrective action, such as revoking an abortion clinic's license, could also be imposed.
SB 174 would go into effect when the Supreme Court votes to overturn Roe v. Wade. Most importantly, it protects babies from all elective abortions, regardless of gestational age.
