To Whom it May Concern,

I’m not particularly interested in chicken fighting, I find it rather boring.  But I have been to several fights and have seen how these birds live.  The majority of the people at the fights are well established business men, and they regard chicken fighting as not just a sport but a business.  Drugs and drug use are not tolerated at the fights.  Although many chicken fighters are Hispanic just because they are Hispanic doesn’t mean they are involved with drugs.  Excessive drinking is also not tolerated, it’s just not good business and if a person becomes a nuisance they are not invited the next time.  The kids I’ve seen at the fights are well behaved and expected to act that way.  Gambling is not organized, it’s simply between individuals, which is not illegal.

The reason I don’t object to chicken fighting is because of the way the birds live.  The stags live free the first six months, then they are put in pens before they establish a pecking order.  That way the rooster will always think he’s the top one.  They aren’t trained to fight, it’s just in their nature and all roosters will fight another rooster if no pecking order has been established.  The birds live in pens many times larger than those allowed most laying hens, they are fed special diets not mass produced mash.  The hens live free almost all year, they are only penned a few weeks at a time.  They can live into their teens.  Jay Leno had the “oldest chicken” on his show a couple years ago.  At that time I personally knew of two hens and a rooster that were older than that one.

Chicken fights are not an issue for law enforcement, they do not cause problems or issues for the community.  This bill is just another way animal rights nuts are trying to establish their twisted agenda on the rest of the community.
