Mosaic artist Jim Bachor fills potholes with works of art in Chicago. It all started a year and a half ago, when a pothole popped up in front of his home in the Mayfair neighborhood. Bachor poured wet concrete into the broken road surface, and carefully pressed in a mosaic and glass tile mural.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has ordered 67 Freightliner 114SD severe duty trucks for its fleet. All of the trucks will be manufactured at the Freightliner Mt. Holly Truck Manufacturing Plant in Mt. Holly, N.C.

Crown Communities

American City & County now accepting nominations for Crown Communities Award

Any city or county government project in the United States substantially completed between November 2012 and September 2014 is eligible. Projects can encompass virtually any aspect of city or county government, including — but not limited to — water supply, streets and highways, parks and recreation, wastewater collection and treatment, public finance, public transportation, stormwater and flood control, technology, solid waste collection and treatment, public safety, management, building maintenance and construction, and grounds maintenance. There are no restrictions on who can submit a nomination.


Projects will be judged on uniqueness, short- and long-term value to the community and effective/innovative financing.
