Good morning,

Prescription Drugs The dangers of prescription drug misuse resulting in death and addiction constitute a top priority public health problem in the United States and are shared by the workers' compensation community.

To better understand the issue within workers' compensation, join WCRI authors, Dongchun Wang and Vennela Thumula, for an hour-long webinar on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CT, 12 a.m. MT, and 11 a.m. PT) as they discuss the findings from the following recently published WCRI prescription drug studies:

  • Longer-Term Use of Opioids 2nd Edition: The study examined the prevalence of longer-term use of opioids in 25 states and how often the services recommended by medical treatment guidelines were used for monitoring and managing chronic opioid therapy.

Questions addressed:

  • How often were opioids used in the workers' compensation system?
  • What states had higher or lower opioid use?
  • How prevalent was the longer-term use of opioids?
  • How often were drug testing and other guideline recommended services used among injured workers with longer-term use of opioids, and why are these recommended services important?

Both studies cover the following states: Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Attendance is limited to 100 people and all attendees receive a free copy of the slides. Webinars are $39 for WCRI members; $79 for non-members; and no charge for members of the press, legislators as well as their staff, and state public officials who make policy decisions impacting their state's workers' compensation system.
