Brian Probst



Brian Probst is a serial entrepreneur who has founded several businesses in consumer electronics and consumer goods. Brian is a passionate product designer-inventor and holder of number patents. Angel Group Investing Heats Up

KANSAS CITY, Mo., SANTA CLARA, Calif., and NEW YORK, Aug. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --  The Angel Resource Institute (ARI) , Silicon Valley Bank (SVB)and CB Insights released the Q1 2014 Halo Report today, a national survey of angel group investment activity. The report finds median round sizes increased to $980K per deal, and pre-money valuations rose to $2.7 million in the quarter. Investments in Internet-related companies jumped significantly, while dollars invested in mobile and healthcare companies dropped.

August is the traditional vacation month for venture capitalists, who stream out of their Sand Hill Road offices to quieter points, ostensibly to reflect on the year so far and prepare for the heavy fall fundraising season.


And what a year it has been! We now have several companies valued at around $10 billion and above, including Airbnb, Dropbox, and Uber. Those valuations seem tame compared to the wild fundraises raised by a myriad of startups over the past few months. Medium raised $25 million in its series A in January while Secret secured $25 million a few weeks ago — just nine months after its launch.

New Enterprise Associates averaged a U.S. funding deal every three days in the first half of this year, the hottest six months for the industry since the end of the dotcom boom in 2001.


Not far behind NEA's 64 first half deals were Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (54), Andreessen Horowitz (52) and Google Ventures (50), according to a report from investment database research firm CB Insights.




VCs Invest More than $1 Billion in Enterprise Tech Startups in Q2

Venture capital investment during the second quarter hit its highest quarterly mark since the boom days of the dotcom era. About $13.88 billion was invested, the highest funding total since the first quarter of 2001, according to venture capital database CB Insights.


Although consumer tech companies raised some of the largest rounds, tech companies that sell products to corporations raised at least $1 billion collectively during the quarter, according to an analysis of data from CB Insights and Dow Jones Venture Source.

Venture capital investment in the second quarter climbed to record levels, with technology and health care making the largest gains.

The floodgates of financing are officially open for some of the luckiest tech and health-care companies, according to a new report.

Venture capital investment climbed to a level not seen since 2001 in the second quarter, according to private company research firm CB Insights, whose "Financing and Exit Trends" report for the second quarter of 2014 was released on Thursday.

U.S.-based venture capital firms raised $18.3 billion for 146 venture capital funds in the first six months of 2014, with mega-funds leading the charge.


The five largest funds raised in the first half of the year collected $1 billion or more, led by Andreessen Horowitz, which closed on $1.7 billion for Andreessen Horowitz Fund Fund IV; Technology Crossover Ventures, which raised $1.36 billion for TCV VIII; and Norwest Venture Partners, which pulled in $1.2 billion forNorwest Venture Partners XII, according to Thomson Reuters (publisher of peHUB).
