Happy New Year!
On this first day of 2014, I wanted to especially thank you for making 2013 a momentous year for Life, and let you know how encouraged I am to move into 2014 with your support and friendship to Americans United for Life (AUL).
So many of you answered our requests for an extra end-of-year effort to help us start 2014 financially strong. Thanks to your response, I am confident that 2014 is only going to continue building on the momentum from our 2013 victories.
This past year we saw a notorious abortionist convicted of infanticide and manslaughter. We saw an unprecedented number of abortion clinics close. We saw Texas pass an omnibus pro-life bill against virulent opposition and a high-profile filibuster. We saw the first-in-the-nation ban on abortions for genetic abnormalities and sex of the unborn baby.
What a year this was for defending life!
There’s a movement afoot in our country today to hold the abortion industry accountable for their abuses – and you have been an important part of that surge. There will be babies born in 2014 . . . and mothers saved from the destruction of abortion largely because of these victories we’ve worked toward together in 2013.
Indeed, our 2013 victories were so significant that major news outlets are taking note.The New York Times, MSNBC, TIME Magazine, and Mother Jones, among others, reported on the rising tide of pro-life legislation and cited AUL as the pro-life group “perhaps most responsible for the barrage of new state laws.”
Last year alone, AUL:
- helped enact 16 pro-life laws across the nation, bringing the total for the last three years to over 60;
- answered approximately 1000 requests for information and assistance, building momentum for this coming year;
- filed 21 amicus curiae briefs in courts to defend life; and
- received online and media mentions over 1.2 million times, defending life in the court of public opinion.
With the launch of AUL’s Women’s Protection Project, which highlights the harmful effects that abortion has on women, as well as its destruction of unborn life, in 2014 AUL will continue to confront and expose Big Abortion for the heartless, profit-driven industry that it is. We will also be persistent in asking the United States Supreme Court to confront the reality that abortion harms women. In the coming year, the Court will have the opportunity to accept cases involving AUL model legislation passed in Texas and Arizona, both of which target the basis ofRoe v. Wade.
Because of your support, you are saving lives today while helping lay the legal groundwork to overturnRoe v. Wade—and protect millions of women and innocent unborn children from abortion.
So, once again, thank you for your year-end giving, and for coming alongside us as we work towards defending Life in 2014!
