Subject: Former Lake Powell Pipeline Leader Says Project Not Needed - oppose SB 80 and HB 257

Dear Utah Representative:

Former Lake Powell Pipeline Leader Says Project Not Needed

As you will note, the former Director of the Utah Division of Water Resources is acknowledging that the multi-billion-dollar Lake Powell Pipeline (LPP) is not necessary if some landscaping changes are made going forward in Washington County.  This is a powerful admission that the LPP proponents have exaggerated and misrepresented the alleged need for the LPP and that feasible water conservation measures can eliminate this alleged need.

All Utah taxpayers should not have millions of their transportation dollars diverted, and then billions more loaned for construction costs and financing debt, for such a dubious and risky project to ostensibly serve two counties.  There are much cheaper and more reliable alternatives to meet the water needs of these two counties.

As such, please oppose continued LPP funding in SB 80 and HB 257 which are pending in the Revenue and Taxation Committee.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Richard Spotts
