After 100 years of persecution, prosecution and alienation, Representatives Noel and Tanner are introducing language that will begin the healing process for some 30,000 Utahns who are in plural families, and although tremendous progress has been made, there is still work to be done.
Please amend HB-281 line 28 as follows:
28 (2) Bigamy is an infraction.
This would be a step forward in the state's endeavor to show the 10th Circuit Court that they intend to make good on their statements toward satisfying the conditions of the Kody Brown lawsuit.
Also, this change more than satisfies our Utah Constitution Article III, which does not require any penalty be imposed on a bigamy statute.
And furthermore, this would signify one GIANT step towards bridging the gap between a religious minority and the rest of the citizens of our Great State.
