Hello! I am a mom of three, and an L.C.S.W. Thank you for your work for our State.

I am writing today to ask you to please oppose SB38. My children attend district schools and I believe that there should be a separate state levy for charter schools (as proposed in HB 0193).

1. With SB 38, using funds from district high schools to support charter schools (mostly elementary) is bad for everyone. When charter school students return to their district high school (which most do), they have decreased opportunities too.

2. Having districts collect revenue for charters is taxation without representation as no elected officials in districts oversee charters.

3. There is currently no transparency for funds being diverted to charter schools from district schools on property tax notices.

4. When charter funds are dispersed on the state average, it creates funding inequities between charters and district schools located in the same neighborhoods. Charter funds should be dispersed geographically in amounts that do not exceed and do not divert funding from their non-charter neighboring schools.

Also, State School Board Election Process continues to be an issue. I feel the best solution for all students is direct, non-partisan elections for local and state school board members.

I also would like to ask you to please support the expansion of extended-day kindergarten.

Thank you,
