Please, we need the government less involved in our lives, even, or especially, in education. More funding for education has not improved it. Head Start is a great example. It seemed like a great idea. Intuitively, it should have worked. That doesn't mean we should keep it going or that more money will make it better. If we must "interfere," please try something else like working directly with low-income parents. If that doesn't work try something else. **Head Start has been shown, in study after study, to have no lasting benefit!!** Stop policies of privacy invasion, especially for these very youngest "students." I agree with Utah Eagle Forum and Utahns Against Common Core. I hope we can count on you to fight for privacy, freedom, and parental rights. Stop "Commom-Core-like" encroachments at every turn PLEASE. Young children need more time directly with those who know and love them best. They cannot even learn to share before they learn to be confident in "having." They need to be the "favorite," be one-on-one with Mom and/or Dad. They need to explore and play, follow their own natural learning patterns. I have seen pre-school teachers take dislike to certain kids. This is a death sentence to the self-esteem of pre-schoolers. If anything, we start our children in institutionalized school TOO YOUNG, not to old! Maybe we should provide welfare longer to new mothers. Keep the children in the home, NOT in pre-school. $5 million toward better education in Utah? Pay PROVEN good teachers more and get rid of poor performing teachers. Especially get proven good reading teachers for kindergarten through fifth grade teachers. Get books into homes. Form a program to enlist hundreds of volunteer tutors, especially for elementary. If you have to, pay parents to come to parent-teacher conference. Anything to get the parents involved.
