Feb 5, 2014 Representative David Lifferth State Capitol, Suite 350 350 North State Street Salt Lake City, UT 84114 Dear Representative Lifferth, I am writing to ask that you support school readiness and vote yes on HB96. High-quality preschool is a proven strategy that changes the odds for at-risk children who lack opportunity. Participation in a high-quality preschool program ensures these children enter kindergarten on-track with their peers and reach proven benchmarks. It also increases their chances of graduating from high school, receiving post-secondary education, and obtaining a stable job, which ultimately, saves the state and taxpayers millions by avoiding costly remediation programs. HB96 will offer an innovative way to partner with the private sector, increase the number of at-risk students who can access high-quality preschool programs, and ensure that children are ready to learn. I encourage you to support this VITAL legislation for our kids, our communities, and for the future of our state. I personally know I would benefit from this bill coming into being, I am part of a low income family with a three year old who hasn't been able to stay in his daycare/preschool program due to the high cost and lack of state funding available to me. I also know the benefits of starting kids off on the right foot when it comes to education, I work with kids ranging in age from 5 to 18 who struggle with school, home life and are typically low income and know that building a good relationship with school, and the idea of school would get these kids far ahead of where they need to be. Sincerely, Miss Kylie Peterson 1325 Lincoln Ave Apt 19 Ogden, UT 84404-5663
