Subject: Please Pass HB 342 on Powers and Duties of the State Board of Education
Date: Fri Feb 21 16:43:02 MST 2014
Body:
Dear Representatives,

Please consider your support to pass HB 342 by Rep. Dana Layton. I strongly support this bill.

I am greatly concerned with Common Core and would like to see it repealed entirely. As more and more information is released about this program, the more concerned I become.

I have been VERY disappointed in Governor Herbert's continued support of Common Core and his apparent unwillingness to explore citizen's concerns.

Please help us to make important changes like HB 342! I believe this bill will allow Utah to create its own high quality standards and not be beholden to outside special interest groups that have used Federal bribery through Race to the Top to get us onto Common Core. Common Core isn’t even a complete set of math standards, it’s not college or career ready, and the ELA standards place undue emphasis on informational texts which is not helpful for children’s love of learning.

Sincerely

Mathew Mower
