Dear Legislators,

As a concerned citizen, I am writing to encourage you to vote against HB 96 sponsored by Rep. Greg Hughes titled Utah School Readiness Initiative.  This bill is dangerous for our children especially with a longitudinal database that will track children.  Really, is there a reasonable need for all this data? No, there is not.

In addition, we the people are tired of all the failed programs.  Stop playing with children's lives.  Education belongs in the hands of the parents and local school districts, not in the hands of those who will control the data.  Early education does NOT benefit children and they should actually begin school later rather than earlier.

I completely oppose all preschool bills on a matter of principle since we operate under a compulsory education system. Establishing a preschool program for one class (disadvantaged children) will inevitably lead to mandates for other children and additional funding needs.

Please, think about where this will really take us!  This is a federal takeover of education.  And, where will that leave the states?
