South Making Strides in Renewable Energy

The South has great potential for renewable energy development, according to speakers on a CSG South webinar, "The Impact of Renewable Energy in Southern Economies." Nine states rely on wind power for more than 12 percent of their total annual electricity consumption, with Texas leading the way. While the cost of wind energy is becoming more competitive, state policies are helping the effort.

Applying the Leadership Lessons
of Government in other Arenas

South Dakota Revenue Secretary Andy Gerlach, a 2013 CSG Henry Toll Fellow, has seen his experience in government help him in other arenas--such as when he was deployed to Afghanistan with the National Guard. "You can take a lot of lessons in government--working with different agencies, different areas of government, state, local and federal, and the different branches, and try to come together with a common approach," he said.
