Please support 1SB39. The changes in this bill will leave parents with the final choice on curriculum, and give them the ability to individualize education to the needs of their children.

Studies have shown that there is no correlation between state regulations and the success of home educated students. A home school report put out by HSLDA and NHERI in 2009 clearly shows that home education is a perfectly viable method of education and does not need government oversight to make it effective.

Utah, rightly, puts a great deal of emphasis on protecting the rights of parents. Utah stands out in the United States as a place to raise happy, healthy, and well-rounded children. I support the legislature in recognizing that "parents or guardians are the child's first teachers and are responsible for the education of their children."

I am proud to be a citizen in this state, and I ask you to support this bill and pass it out of committee.
