House Education  Committee,

I am writing to tell you my opinions regarding the following bills: HB 131, HB 342, and HB 228.

HB 131: Please do NOT vote for this bill. It violates student and parent privacy and will cost more to fund than if we stick to the current programs we have. We need to distance ourselves from federal money.

HB 342: Please vote for this bill. It will remove Common Core and allow Utah board members to determine what children in Utah should be taught. Utah board members (who are much closer to what Utah kids need) can determine educational needs of children in Utah much better than the federal government in D.C. (who is very far removed from what Utah kids need).

HB 228: Please vote for this bill. As a citizen of Utah, I want the right to vote in my state school board members. Instead of position by appointment, I believe I should be able to vote to decide who makes the decisions about my child's education.

Again, please vote in favor of HB 342 and HB 228 and against HB 131.

Thank you for your consideration,

Sincerely,

Mauresa Bastian
