To members of the House Rules Committee,

My name is Brad Hansen and I grew up fishing Utah’s beautiful rivers and streams.  In 2010 I was extremely disappointed when legislators took away my right to fish rivers that I had spent money and volunteer hours improving.  I now live in Montana where I enjoy wonderful stream access rights.  The Montana Supreme Court recently upheld the rights of Montanans to recreate in the states beautiful rivers and streams.  I am proud to live in a state where everyone has access to natural resources.

HB 37 is an opportunity for you all to put right what went wrong in 2010.  This is a compromise bill that will work for both public and private interests.  I urge you to support the bill.  Get it through rules and let Utah’s elected reps vote on it.  This issue can be resolved here and now with this compromise bill or it will work itself out in the courts; and who knows how long that will take.  Again, I urge you to support HB 37.  Send a message that the ordinary angler has as much right to fish public waters as the wealthy angler.  When it comes to stream access, I favor access!!
