Dear Friend,

I know you are scrambling to wrap things up (literally) before Christmas. We, too, are readying a number of reports and conferences for the first quarter of 2014. Of special note, you may have heard of the just-launched major statewide multimedia campaign educating Utahns about the harms created by poorly written nondiscrimination laws. We feel fortunate to work on this effort with so many of our allies in the First Freedoms Coalition. To do all of this, we are also working hard to raise the funds needed to execute our job effectively and energetically.

We thank the many, many of you who have already given this year—your generosity makes our work possible. We are just $14,820 away from our calendar year-end goal. We are SO close! Can you help us close the gap in the next 12 days?

I hope you will make Sutherland Institute one of the organizations you give to at year’s end. I’d like to share just a little evidence showing how a donation to Sutherland is one of the best ways you can spend your charitable dollars.

Furthermore, and more importantly, an Obama-appointed federal judge just now overturned Utah's "Amendment 3," defining marriage as between a man and a woman. That decision will be appealed, of course, but support for traditional marriage and the natural family requires even more of our time and resources. Now is the time to help.

In 2013, Sutherland played a leading role in the accelerating push to transfer Utah’s federal lands to the state, helped in large measure by the work done by our new Center for Self-Government in the West. Sutherland also co-chaired the state executive and legislative Charity Care Commission Subgroup recommending alternatives to the push for Medicaid/Obamacare expansion in the state. We received significant media coverage when we brought in nationally respected experts to testify to the state legislature about the benefits of lowering Utah's legal blood alcohol content level.

Those are key successes, but there’s still so much work to do to help the Beehive State continue to be a great place to live, work and raise a family. If you’ve just sent in your gift, thank you! If not, please help us reach our goal.
