Body:
Hi friends,

I want to keep you in the loop on the meetings Lt. Governor Bell has invited legislators  to join Governor Gary Herbert and him next week to discuss Prosperity 2020's "On PACE to 66% by 2020" plan. A copy of the invites that were sent to the senators and representatives is below.  We have received good response from the legislators and plan to follow up with a phone call next week to those who have not responded.

They will be meeting with representatives on Tuesday, December 18th at 4:30-6:00 and with senators on Wednesday, December 19th at 5:00-6:15.  Both of these meetings will be held in the Capitol Board Room.  Lt. Governor Bell has spoken with the Majority Leaders and the Speaker for approval to have these meetings following the scheduled caucus meetings on those days.  The majority leaders suggested the start times.

If you have any questions, please give me a call this week.  I will be on vacation next week, but if needed you can contact Eric at 801-538-1102.

Have a very Merry Christmas.

Lynette

Discussion "On PACE to 66% by 2020"

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

4:30-6:00 p.m.

Capitol Board Room

Dear Representative,

I would like to personally invite you to join Governor Gary Herbert and I along with Prosperity 2020 and prominent business leaders on on Tuesday, December 18th from approximately 4:30-6:00 pm (or immediately following the Republican caucus) in the Capitol Board Room. We expect to spend about an hour presenting “On PACE to 66% by 2020” and the plan to achieve that goal.

As you know, education is our top priority and one of the cornerstones of our administration.  We must have 66% of our adult population with a certificate or degree by 2020 or our state will underperform in attracting business and industry to our state.  Our collaborative effort began with the Governor’s Education Excellence Commission which includes appointed legislators, representatives of our education community as well as business leaders from throughout the state. The Commission has made several recommendations including the plan “On PACE to 66% by 2020” that charts the direction Utah must pursue in accomplishing this goal.

This important discussion will set the stage for legislation during the upcoming session.  We feel it is vital we cooperatively work together for our children and all our students to ensure their success not only in their education, but as they join the workforce upon their graduation.

Prosperity 2020 will provide a light dinner of holiday hors d’oeuvres. We would appreciate a reply indicating whether you will be attending.

Respectfully,

Greg Bell

Lieutenant Governor

P.S.  We will be holding a similar discussion with the members of the Senate the following evening, Wednesday, December 19th.  You are welcome to join us then if you are not available on the 18th.
