5    AN ACT RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLES; AMENDING CERTAIN PARKING
6    RESTRICTIONS; AND MAKING TECHNICAL CORRECTIONS.
7    This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
8    AMENDS:
9         41-6-103, as enacted by Chapter 33, Laws of Utah 1978
10    Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
11        Section 1. Section 41-6-103 is amended to read:
12         41-6-103. Standing or parking vehicles -- Restrictions and exceptions.
13        (1) Except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic, or in compliance with law
14    [or], the directions of a police officer, or an official traffic-control device, [no] a person [shall] may
15    not:
16        [(1)] (a) stop, stand or park a vehicle:
17        [(a)] (i) on the roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parked at the edge or curb of a
18    street;
19        [(b)] (ii) on a sidewalk;
20        [(c)] (iii) within an intersection;
21        [(d)] (iv) on a crosswalk;
22        [(e)] (v) between a safety zone and the adjacent curb or within 30 feet of points on the curb
23    immediately opposite the ends of a safety zone, unless a different length is indicated by signs or
24    markings;
25        [(f)] (vi) alongside or opposite any street excavation or obstruction when stopping,
26    standing, or parking would obstruct traffic;
27        [(g)] (vii) upon any bridge or other elevated structure, upon a highway, or within a


1    highway tunnel;
2        [(h)] (viii) on any railroad tracks;
3        [(i)] (ix) on any controlled-access highway;
4        [(j)] (x) in the area between roadways of a divided highway, including crossovers; or
5        [(k)] (xi) any place where official traffic-control devices prohibit stopping[.], standing, or
6    parking; or
7        [(2)] (b) stand or park a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except momentarily to pick up
8    or discharge a passenger or passengers:
9        [(a)] (i) in front of a public or private driveway;
10        [(b)] (ii) within 15 feet of a fire hydrant;
11        [(c)] (iii) within 20 feet of a crosswalk [at an intersection];
12        [(d)] (iv) within 30 feet upon the approach to any flashing signal, stop sign, yield sign, or
13    traffic-control signal located at the side of a roadway;
14        [(e)] (v) within 20 feet of the driveway entrance to any fire station and on the side of a
15    street opposite the entrance to any fire station within 75 feet of [said] the entrance when properly
16    signposted; or
17        [(f)] (vi) at any place where official traffic-control devices prohibit standing[.]; or
18        [(3)] (c) park a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except temporarily for the purpose of and
19    while actually engaged in loading or unloading property or passengers:
20        [(a)] (i) within 50 feet of the nearest rail of a railroad crossing; or
21        [(b)] (ii) at any place where official traffic-control devices prohibit parking.
22        [(4) No] (2) A person [shall] may not move a vehicle that is not lawfully under [such] the
23    person's control into any prohibited area or into an unlawful distance from the curb.
