The members of the subcommittee toured the Utah Tax Commission for a demonstration of the
UTAX system of tax collections.
The members then visited the City and County Building to view the seismic undergirding that
was accomplished to preserve this historic building. Members discussed the possibilities of
using the same system to preserve the Utah State Capitol Building.
The members then visited the new courts complex, the Matheson Courthouse, and viewed the
holding cells for prisoners, one of 29 multi-purpose courtrooms, a judge's chambers, jury
deliberation room, the new Utah Supreme Court where some concern was expressed about the
artwork, the rotunda with the view from the fifth floor, the mechanical features of the building on
both the sixth and fifth floors, and the secure level of the parking garage.
The members were returned to the capitol at 4:50 p.m.
