             9      CURRENT FUNDING FOR THE WASATCH FRONT SOUTH APPLIED TECHNOLOGY
             10      SERVICE REGION BETWEEN THE WASATCH FRONT SOUTH APPLIED
             11      TECHNOLOGY CENTER AND SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE; AND PROVIDING
             12      AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
             13      This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
             14      ENACTS:
             15          53A-15-202.5, Utah Code Annotated 1953
             16      This act enacts uncodified material.
             17      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             18          Section 1. Section 53A-15-202.5 is enacted to read:
             19          53A-15-202.5. Applied technology centers.
             20          The following applied technology centers are established to assist in providing applied
             21      technology education in an efficient and cost-effective manner throughout the state:
             22          (1) Bridgerland Applied Technology Center;
             23          (2) Davis Applied Technology Center;
             24          (3) Ogden-Weber Applied Technology Center;
             25          (4) Wasatch Front South Applied Technology Center; h [[] and []] h
             26          (5) Uintah Basin Applied Technology Center h [[] . []] [ ;
             26a          (6) MOUNTAIN LAND APPLIED TECHNOLOGY CENTER;
             26b          (7) SOUTHEAST APPLIED TECHNOLOGY CENTER; AND
             26c          (8) SOUTHWEST APPLIED TECHNOLOGY CENTER. ]

             27          Section 2. Intent language.


             28          (1) (a) It is the intent of the Legislature that for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1999, the
             29      current funding for the Wasatch Front South Applied Technology Service Region shall be divided
             30      into two parts.
             31          (b) The first part, the public education allocation, shall be used to fund the Wasatch Front
             32      South Applied Technology Center, which has as its primary role to meet the applied technology
             33      training needs of secondary students in Salt Lake and Tooele Counties.
             34          (c) The second part, the higher education allocation, shall be used by Salt Lake
             35      Community College to support applied technology training for adult students.
             36          (2) It is the intent of the Legislature that for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1999, and for
             37      each fiscal year thereafter, the Legislature shall provide:
             38          (a) a line item appropriation under public education in the Appropriations Act to fund the
             39      Wasatch Front South Applied Technology Center; and
             40          (b) a line item appropriation under higher education in the Appropriations Act to fund the
             41      applied technology training for adult students at Salt Lake Community College referred to in
             42      Subsection (1)(c).
             43          Section 3. Effective date.
             44          This act takes effect on July 1, 1999.
