AN ACT RELATING TO APPLIED TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION; DESIGNATING THE
STATE'S APPLIED TECHNOLOGY CENTERS TO INCLUDE THE WASATCH FRONT
SOUTH APPLIED TECHNOLOGY CENTER; PROVIDING FOR THE DIVISION OF
CURRENT FUNDING FOR THE WASATCH FRONT SOUTH APPLIED TECHNOLOGY
SERVICE REGION BETWEEN THE WASATCH FRONT SOUTH APPLIED TECHNOLOGY
CENTER AND SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:

This act enacts uncodified material.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
Section 1. Section 53A-15-202.5 is enacted to read:
53A-15-202.5. Applied technology centers.
The following applied technology centers are established to assist in providing applied
technology education in an efficient and cost-effective manner throughout the state:
(1) Bridgerland Applied Technology Center;
(2) Davis Applied Technology Center;
(3) Ogden-Weber Applied Technology Center;
(4) Wasatch Front South Applied Technology Center; and
(5) Uintah Basin Applied Technology Center.
Section 2. Intent language.
(1) (a) It is the intent of the Legislature that for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1999, the
current funding for the Wasatch Front South Applied Technology Service Region shall be divided
into two parts.
(b) The first part, the public education allocation, shall be used to fund the Wasatch Front
South Applied Technology Center, which has as its primary role to meet the applied technology
training needs of secondary students in Salt Lake and Tooele Counties.
(c) The second part, the higher education allocation, shall be used by Salt Lake Community
College to support applied technology training for adult students.
(2) It is the intent of the Legislature that for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1999, and for
each fiscal year thereafter, the Legislature shall provide:
(a) a line item appropriation under public education in the Appropriations Act to fund the
Wasatch Front South Applied Technology Center; and
(b) a line item appropriation under higher education in the Appropriations Act to fund the
applied technology training for adult students at Salt Lake Community College referred to in
Subsection (1)(c).
Section 3. Effective date.
This act takes effect on July 1, 1999.
