NATURAL RESOURCES VOLUNTEERS
1999 GENERAL SESSION

AN ACT RELATING TO THE UTAH NATURAL RESOURCES ACT; PROVIDING THAT
FOR CERTAIN PURPOSES A VOLUNTEER IS CONSIDERED AN EMPLOYEE OF THE
STATE.
This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
AMENDS:
63-34-11, as enacted by Chapter 186, Laws of Utah 1981
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
Section 1. Section 63-34-11 is amended to read:
63-34-11. Volunteers as state employees.
A volunteer is considered an employee of the state for the purposes [of:] stated in Section
67-20-3 .
[(1) workmen's compensation benefits for any injury sustained by him while engaged in
the performance of any service under the control and direction of the supervising agency;]
[(2) operation of state vehicles or equipment when he is properly licensed for that
operation; and]
[(3) liability protection and indemnification normally afforded salaried employees.]
