APPROPRIATION FOR HIGHER EDUCATION
EXTENSION PROGRAMS AT COUNTY JAILS
2000 GENERAL SESSION

AN ACT RELATING TO EDUCATION; PROVIDING A $75,000 APPROPRIATION TO THE
STATE BOARD OF REGENTS TO EXPAND AND MAINTAIN ITS UNIVERSITY
EXTENSION PROGRAM AT COUNTY JAILS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
This act enacts uncodified material.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
Section 1. Appropriation.
(1) There is appropriated from the General Fund for fiscal year 2000-01, $75,000 to the
State Board of Regents to be used by Utah State University to:
(a) expand its university extension program to the county jail in Duchesne County; and
(b) maintain its university extension program at the county jail in San Juan County.
(2) The university shall use the appropriation for:
(a) downlinks and media equipment at the jail sites; and
(b) ongoing costs to operate, support, and maintain the extension program at the jail sites.
(3) The board shall closely monitor the extension program and report on its effectiveness
to the Education Interim Committee prior to November 30, 2000.
Section 2. Effective date.
This act takes effect on July 1, 2000.
