2000 GENERAL SESSION

STATE OF UTAH

Sponsor: Leonard M. Blackham

AN ACT RELATING TO APPROPRIATIONS; APPROPRIATING $200,000 FROM THE
GENERAL FUND FOR FISCAL YEAR 2000-01 ONLY, TO THE DIVISION OF BUSINESS
DEVELOPMENT IN THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE UTAH HERITAGE HIGHWAY
PROJECT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
                  This act enacts uncodified material.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
                      Section 1. Intent.
The Legislature finds that State Route 89 extending from the junction with State Route 6
near Thistle in Utah County south into Arizona could be an asset for economic development for the
entire state, particularly rural Utah, by designating the highway the "Utah Heritage Highway" and
by developing and promoting a world class heritage art and craft merchandising corridor. The
corridor includes many outlets which provide heritage products, crafts, and related facilities. By
promoting the Utah Heritage Highway, tourism and economic growth would be enhanced.
                      Section 2. Appropriation.
                      (1) For fiscal year 2000-01 only, there is appropriated from the General Fund to the
Division of Business Development in the Department of Community and Economic Development
$200,000 to be used to develop and promote the Utah Heritage Highway Project.
                      (2) The appropriation under Subsection (1) is nonlapsing.
                      Section 3. Effective date.
This act takes effect on July 1, 2000.
