Mr. Speaker:

    The Education Committee reports a favorable recommendation on H.B. 166, NECESSARILY EXISTENT SMALL SCHOOLS, by Representative B. Johnson, et al, with the following amendments:

1.    Page 1, Line 9:    After "FORMULA;" insert "PROVIDING A $3,168,000 APPROPRIATION;"
2.    Page 1, Line 23:    After "rules to" insert ":
        (i)"
3.    Page 1, Line 26:    After "units" bracket the period and insert "; and
        (ii) ensure that districts are not building secondary schools in close proximity to one another where economy and efficiency would be better served by one school meeting the needs of secondary students in a designated geographical area."

4.    Page 1, Line 26:    After line 26 insert:
        "(c) A one or two-year secondary school that has received necessarily existent small school money under this section prior to July 1, 2000, may continue to receive such money in subsequent years under state board rule."

5.    Page 2, Line 39:    Delete line 39

6.    Page 2, Line 40:    Bracket (iii) and insert (ii)

7.    Page 2, Line 41:    Bracket (iv) and insert (iii)

8.    Page 2, Line 42:    Bracket (v) and insert (iv)

9.    Page 2, Line 43:    Bracket (vi) and insert (v)


10.    Page 2, Line 55:    After line 55 insert:
        "Section 2. Appropriation.
        There is appropriated for fiscal year 2000-01, from the Uniform School Fund to the State Board of Education $3,168,000 to fund the changes in the regression formula for necessarily existent small schools under Section 1 of this act, including Social Security and retirement costs. It is the intent of the Legislature that this appropriation shall supplement the appropriation made for necessarily existent small schools in S.B. 3, Minimum School Program Act Amendments."

         Renumber remaining sections accordingly.
