MUSEUM EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVE
2001 GENERAL SESSION

This act appropriates $1,000,000 from the General Fund to the Office of Museum Services
for enhancement of museums within the state. The act takes effect on July 1, 2001.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
Section 1. Intent.
Recognizing the state's commitment to public education, the Legislature finds that
museums are a primary source of information for public education and that public education is
enhanced through the use of museum resources, site visits, and tours. It is the intent of the
Legislature in appropriating these funds to provide support to the Office of Museum Services for
enhancement of museums within the state. It is the intent of the Legislature that this appropriation
shall be used for:
(1) grants to local, regional, and state museums;
(2) enhancement of educational outreach programs;
(3) expansion of elementary and middle school outreach programs; and
(4) activities enhancing creation, preservation, and display of historical and educational
artifacts and materials.
Section 2. Appropriation.
(1) There is appropriated from the General Fund for fiscal year 2001-02, $1,000,000.
(2) These appropriations are nonlapsing.
Section 3. Effective date.
This act takes effect on July 1, 2001.
