COMPENSATION OF COUNCIL MEMBERS

             5      This act modifies the Utah Municipal Code to eliminate a prohibition against city council
             6      members having other compensated employment with the city and to make technical
             7      changes.
             8      This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
             9      AMENDS:
             10          10-3-1211, as enacted by Chapter 48, Laws of Utah 1977
             11      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             12          Section 1. Section 10-3-1211 is amended to read:
             13           10-3-1211. Council members -- Qualifications -- Terms of office.
             14          [Council members] (1) Each council member shall be [residents] a resident of the
             15      municipality from which [they are elected, and, if elected from districts, of the districts from which
             16      they are elected. Council members shall have no other compensated employment with the
             17      municipality. Terms of office of the council members shall be four years each] elected, and, if
             18      elected from a district, of the district from which elected.
             19          (2) The term of office of each council member shall be four years, or until a successor is
             20      qualified, except that initially, approximately one-half of the council members shall serve terms
             21      of two years each.
