             7      This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor urges Congress and Utah's
             8      congressional delegation to recognize the benefits that Lake Powell, the Glen Canyon Dam,
             9      Flaming Gorge Reservoir, and Flaming Gorge Dam bring to the people of Utah and to
             10      visitors from around the world. The resolution urges Congress to oppose any effort to
             11      breach Glen Canyon Dam or Flaming Gorge Dam.
             12      Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
             13          WHEREAS, the existence of Glen Canyon Dam and Flaming Gorge Dam has allowed the
             14      seven Colorado River Basin states to share and cooperatively plan for the beneficial use of water
             15      for citizens;
             16          WHEREAS, Lake Powell and Flaming Gorge Reservoir provide water storage capability
             17      in the Colorado River system for the citizens of the seven states;
             18          WHEREAS, electric generating facilities at Glen Canyon Dam and Flaming Gorge Dam
             19      provide electricity for more than a million households;
             20          WHEREAS, millions of visitors annually enjoy the recreational amenities and
             21      world-renown fisheries at Lake Powell and Flaming Gorge Reservoir; and
             22          WHEREAS, the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam and the Flaming Gorge Dam has
             23      caused the emergence of a rich riparian habitat below the dams that did not previously exist:
             24          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
             25      Governor concurring therein, urge the United States Congress and the members of Utah's
             26      congressional delegation to recognize and appreciate the water, power, recreation, and
             27      environmental benefits resulting from the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam and the Flaming


             28      Gorge Dam and the filling of Lake Powell and the Flaming Gorge Reservoir, and the benefits to
             29      the citizens of the state of Utah and the other Colorado River states from the existence of Lake
             30      Powell and Flaming Gorge Reservoir.
             31          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor urge the United
             32      States Congress to oppose any effort to breach or remove Glen Canyon Dam or Flaming Gorge
             33      Dam, or drain Lake Powell or Flaming Gorge Reservoir.
             34          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to the President of the
             35      United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and the members
             36      of Utah's congressional delegation.
