6 This concurrent resolution of the Legislature designates April 11, 2001 as International
7 Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers Day and recognizes the Centennial of the International
8 Society Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
9 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
10 WHEREAS, the International Society Daughters of the Utah Pioneers is celebrating its
11 100th anniversary April 11, 2001;
12 WHEREAS, on April 11, 1901, 46 women, all descendants of the pioneers of 1847, met
13 to organize a group whose objectives were to strengthen the bonds of friendship and love among
14 the descendants of those who so faithfully braved the difficulties encountered in the founding of
15 the territory;
16 WHEREAS, the group has become an international organization with members in almost
17 every state and in Canada;
18 WHEREAS, the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers is nonpolitical and
19 nonsectarian and was organized for historical, educational, and public purposes;
20 WHEREAS, the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers is dedicated to
21 perpetuating the names and achievements of those men, women, and children who founded Utah;
22 WHEREAS, the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers seeks to encompass a
23 broad scope of services ranging from preservation of historic landmarks to the education of
24 thousands of school children and other citizens about their pioneer forbears;
25 WHEREAS, the objectives of the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers are
26 accomplished by collecting pioneer artifacts, histories, maps, photographs, and manuscripts;
27 providing a repository for pioneer artifacts and an open storage research center; preserving
28 historical landmarks; publishing historical material relating to the pioneer period; marking
29 historical places; and providing a speaker's forum for community gatherings;
30 WHEREAS, the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers has over 85 museums
31 in the state of Utah and in other states;
32 WHEREAS, the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers has marked over 500
33 historical points of interest with plaques describing their historical significance;
34 WHEREAS, the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers has compiled over
35 100,000 pioneer histories and approximately 10,000 photographs; and
36 WHEREAS, the commitment of the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers to
37 document and preserve the history of Utah and its people will be remembered with gratitude and
38 appreciation for generations to come:
39 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
40 Governor concurring therein, designate April 11, 2001 as Daughters of Utah Pioneers Day and
41 recognize the 100th anniversary of the founding of this great organization.
42 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the International
43 Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
