This act modifies statutes governing the Legislature by reducing legislative salaries from July
6
1, 2002 through December 31, 2002 and by directing that the resulting savings be deposited
7
into the General Fund. This act takes effect immediately and has retrospective operation to
8
July 1, 2002.

This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:

Section 1.
Section
36-2-2.1
is enacted to read:

36-2-2.1. Salaries of members -- July-December 2002 only.

(1) Notwithstanding any other requirement of this chapter, for the period beginning July
18
1, 2002 and ending December 31, 2002 only, the salary of members of the Legislature is $96 for
19
each calendar day that the legislator attends veto-override and special sessions and other authorized
20
legislative meetings.

(2) The Legislature, the Office of Legislative Fiscal Analyst, and the Division of Finance
22
shall ensure that monies saved from this salary reduction are deposited in the General Fund.

63-55-236
is amended to read:

63-55-236. Repeal dates, Title 36.

(1) Section
36-2-2.1
is repealed January 1, 2003.

(2) Title 36, Chapter 17, Legislative Process Committee, is repealed July 1, 2005.

Section 3. Effective date -- Retrospective operation.

If approved by two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, this act takes effect
29
upon approval by the governor, or the day following the constitutional time limit of Utah
30
Constitution Article VII, Section 8, without the governor's signature, or in the case of a veto, the
31
date of veto override, and has retrospective operation to July 1, 2002.
