             10      LONG TITLE
             11      General Description:
             12          This bill requires the Department of Transportation to complete a study of east-west
             13      transportation improvements in Salt Lake County.
             14      Highlighted Provisions:
             15          This bill:
             16          .    requires the Department of Transportation to study the need for east-west
             17      transportation improvements in Salt Lake County; and
             18          .    requires the department to report study findings, including improvement costs and
             19      timeline estimates, to the Legislature prior to September 30, 2008.
             20      Monies Appropriated in this Bill:
             21          This bill appropriates:
             22          .    for fiscal year 2006-07 only, $1,500,000 from the General Fund to the Department
             23      of Transportation.

             29      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             30          Section 1. Study of Salt Lake County east-west transportation improvement
             31      needs.
             32          (1) The executive director of the Department of Transportation shall, in coordination
             33      with a representative of the metropolitan planning organization, as defined in Section
             34      72-1-208.5 that includes a county of the first class:
             35          (a) study the following east-west transportation route improvements in Salt Lake
             36      County between the 2100 South Corridor and the southern end of the county and between
             37      Interstate 15 and SR-111:
             38          (i) construction of one or more limited-access highways;
             39          (ii) improvements to the existing system of arterial highways including whether
             40      additional arterial highways should be constructed; and
             41          (iii) development of other multi-modal transportation projects;
             42          (b) identify:
             43          (i) a minimum of three potential corridors for one or more limited-access highways
             44      under Subsection (1)(a)(i);
             45          (ii) a minimum of four potential arterial system improvements or additional arterial
             46      highways under Subsection (1)(a)(ii); and
             47          (iii) alternative overpass, interchange, and intersection designs for each alternative
             48      identified under Subsections (1)(b)(i) and (ii); and
             49          (c) hold one or more public hearings to assist in:
             50          (i) identifying improvements under Subsection (1)(a); and
             51          (ii) developing options under Subsection (1)(b).
             52          (2) The executive director shall report study progress prior to November 30, 2007 and
             53      study findings prior to September 30, 2008 to:
             54          (a) the Executive Appropriations and Transportation Interim Committees of the
             55      Legislature; and


             56          (b) the Transportation Commission.
             57          Section 2. Appropriation.
             58          There is appropriated for fiscal year 2006-07 only, $1,500,000 from the General Fund
             59      to the Department of Transportation to conduct the study required by this bill.
