LONG TITLE

General Description:

This bill requires health care facilities, physicians, osteopathic physicians, and dentists
11
to provide consumers, when requested, with a list of charges for professional services
12
provided by the health care provider, and information of any discounts on billed
13
charges.

Highlighted Provisions:

This bill:
16
. amends the Health Care Facility Licensing and Inspection Act to require health care
17
facilities licensed under the act to provide a consumer with information regarding
18
certain charges;
19
. amends the Utah Medical Practices Act to require a physician licensed under the act
20
to provide a consumer with information regarding certain charges;
21
. amends the Utah Osteopathic Medical Practices Act to require osteopathic
22
physicians to provide consumers with information regarding certain charges; and
23
. amends the Dentist and Dental Hygienist Practice Act to require a dentist to provide
24
consumers with information regarding certain charges.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:

Section 1.
Section
26-21-23
is enacted to read:

26-21-23. Consumer access to facility charges.

A health care facility licensed under this chapter shall, when requested by a consumer:
40
(1) make a list of prices available for the consumer which includes the facility's:
41
(a) 50 most frequently performed:
42
(i) in-patient procedures; and
43
(ii) out-patient procedures; and
44
(b) the 50 most commonly prescribed drugs in the facility; and
45
(2) provide the consumer with information regarding any discounts available for:
46
(a) charges for services not covered by insurance; or
47
(b) prompt payment of billed charges.

is enacted to read:

A physician licensed under this chapter shall, when requested by a consumer:

(1) make a list of professional charges available for the consumer which includes the

physician's 25 most frequently performed:

(a) clinical procedures or clinical services;

(b) out-patient procedures; and

(c) in-patient procedures; and

(2) provide the consumer with information regarding any discount available for:

An osteopathic physician licensed under this chapter shall, when requested by a

osteopathic physician's 25 most frequently performed:

(a) clinical procedures or clinical services;

(b) out-patient procedures; and

(c) in-patient procedures; and

(2) provide the consumer with information regarding any discount available for:

(a) services not covered by insurance; or

(b) prompt payment of billed charges.

A dentist licensed under this chapter shall, when requested by a consumer:
