LONG TITLE

General Description:

This bill provides for and funds a higher education engineering partnership.

Highlighted Provisions:

This bill:

. provides for an engineering partnership between Weber State University and Utah
14
State University to meet the demand for electrical engineers in the state, including
15
the demand at Hill Air Force Base; and
16
. appropriates funds to be used for the engineering partnership.

Monies Appropriated in this Bill:

This bill appropriates:

. as an ongoing appropriation subject to future budget constraints:

. $375,000 from the Education Fund for fiscal year 2007-08 to Weber State

University; and

. $497,400 from the Education Fund for fiscal year 2007-08 to Utah State

University; and

. for fiscal year 2007-08 only:

. $100,000 from the Education Fund to Weber State University; and

. $765,000 from the Education Fund to Utah State University.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:

Section 1.
Section
53B-18-1101
is enacted to read:

Part 11. Higher Education Engineering Partnership

53B-18-1101. Higher Education Engineering Partnership.

(1) Utah State University and Weber State University shall enter into a partnership
38
agreement to jointly deliver a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering to meet the demand
39
for electrical engineers in the state, including the demand at Hill Air force Base.
40
(2) The partnership agreement may provide for:
41
(a) a satellite location for the Utah State University electrical engineering program on a
42
Weber State University campus, including the Davis campus; and
43
(b) a curriculum using courses from:
44
(i) Weber State University's electrical engineering technology and general education
45
programs; and
46
(ii) Utah State University's electrical engineering bachelor's degree program and other
47
related programs.

Section 2. Appropriations.
49
(1) As an ongoing appropriation subject to future budget constraints, there is
50
appropriated from the Education Fund for fiscal year 2007-08, $872,400 for the following:
51
(a) to Utah State University, $497,400 for the higher education engineering partnership
52
under Section
53B-18-1101
at the Weber State University Davis Campus; and
53
(b) to Weber State University, $375,000 for the higher education engineering
54
partnership under Section
53B-18-1101
at the Weber State University Davis Campus.

(2) There is appropriated from the Education Fund for fiscal year 2007-08 only,
56
$865,000 for the following:
57
(a) to Utah State University, $765,000 for the higher education engineering partnership
58
under Section
53B-18-1101
at the Weber State University Davis Campus; and
59
(b) to Weber State University, $100,000 for the higher education engineering
60
partnership under Section
53B-18-1101
at the Weber State University Davis Campus.

Section 3. Effective date.
