Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:

Section 1.
Section
63-11a-103
is amended to read:

63-11a-103. Recreational trail categories.

The following recreational trail categories may be established as part of the state trails
31
system:
32
(1) cross-state trails which connect scenic, natural, historic, geologic, geographic, or
33
other significant features;
34
(2) water-oriented trails providing a path to or along lakes, streams, or reservoirs;
35
(3) scenic-access trails which give access to recreation, scenic, natural, historic, or
36
cultural areas;
37
(4) urban trails which connect parks, scenic and natural areas, historical sites, and
38
neighboring communities within a county of the first or second class; and
39
(5) interpretive trails which identify historic routes and significant natural features.

Section 2. Appropriation to the Department of Natural Resources to fund urban
41
trails.

(1) H. (a) There is appropriated $250,000 from the General Fund for fiscal year
42a
2008-09 only to the Department of Natural Resources.

(b) .H As an ongoing appropriation subject to future budget constraints, there is

appropriated from the General Fund for fiscal year 2008-09, H. [

(2) It is the intent of the Legislature that the Department of Natural Resources use the

monies appropriated in Subsection (1) to give a grant to a local government in accordance with
